I would like to nominate teacher and teacher aide dynamic duo and happily married power couple - Mike and Rosey Kara.
This extraordinary couple has been married for forty one years and have over sixty years combined experience working in the education industry. For over two decades they have been pillars of inspiration and dedication to countless tamariki, their families, colleagues and the wider community through their time teaching at Whakatāne Intermediate.
With their combined warm personalities which includes Mikes calm and unassuming demeanor, Roseys positivity and infectious smile they captivate hearts and touch lives wherever they go.
They have a considerable impact and have enriched the lives of countless people in our community through their dedication to education, Maori achievement and extracurricular activities such as rock climbing.
Through positivity and mentoring they inspire and encourage those around them. They see the best in all tamariki and strive to help them to recognise their own potential, believe in them, push them to be the best they can be and offer opportunities to succeed.
