Bay of Plenty residents have come to together to break records after raising $56,285 for the Philips Search and Rescue Trust as part of the 2025 Westpac Chopper Appeal.

The funds will support the Aerocool Rescue Helicopter, which carries out high-intensity coastal missions across the region.

In May alone, the Aerocool team responded to 58 emergency call-outs, highlighting the critical role the service plays in the community.

Nationwide, the appeal reached a record total of $1.5 million, the highest amount raised in the campaign's history. The funds support the national network of Westpac Rescue Helicopters, which provide vital emergency services across New Zealand.

Westpac NZ General Manager of Product, Sustainability and Marketing, Sarah Hearn, expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the appeal.

“That people give so generously goes to show how much they value the Chopper crews and the life-saving services they provide,” Hearn said. “A huge thank you to everyone who donated, whether to a street collector on Chopper Appeal Day, cycled 230km in the Westpac Chopper Bike Ride, baked for a fundraiser, or supported a quiz night or auction event.”

Hearn also noted that every dollar donated locally stays local, supporting the region’s helicopter trust with essential costs such as equipment, training, and medical supplies.

“Our staff are equally enthusiastic about working alongside communities to raise funds and help keep people safe. We're proud of our connection with the rescue helicopters, which spans over 40 years,” she added.

Donations to the Westpac Chopper Appeal can be made year-round.
