A body has been found off the coast of Whakatāne, in the search for a man who went overboard, off a vessel this morning.
A Police spokesperson said the body is "believed to be the man reported missing off a vessel this morning" between Whakatāne and Whakaari/White Island.
The man was last seen around midnight with authorities being alerted about 3am.
A formal identification process is underway to confirm the man's identity.
"Police wish to thank the Rescue Coordination Centre, Coastguard Whakatāne and Ōpōtiki volunteers for their assistance with the search," the spokesperson said.
