Work is in full swing on a new roundabout at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Wainui Road in Matekerepu.
It's part of NZTA's State Highway 2 Wainui to Ōpōtiki safety improvements project which aims to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries as well as improve efficiency.
Construction started on the roundabout back in April.
A latest update by NZTA states most of the recent work has been focused on building the new road which includes pouring the first kerbs to form the edges of the roundabout. The kerbs, which are poured by placing fresh concrete onto the prepared ground and shaping it by either hand or with a special machine, are to help manage stormwater and guide traffic.
The team will begin stabilizing the road over the next week - which NZTA say is a key step that makes the road longer lasting, more resilient and safer for road users.
More kerbs are to be poured in the coming weeks which will eventually give the roundabout its full shape and structure.
Two lanes of traffic is still being managed through the site, with some being directed to use the widened shoulder.
Motorists are being asked to follow directions and expect stop–go traffic management throughout the month.
NZTA expect construction on the Matekerepu roundabout to finish in April 2026.
