As winter approaches, Eastern Bay residents are being encouraged to step up their home and business security by installing CCTV cameras.

Whakatāne Neighbourhood Support Area Coordinator, Jane Fox, says having a camera in place can be a valuable tool for both crime prevention and police investigations. “It gives residents peace of mind knowing they’re helping to protect their community,” she said.

Residents with cameras are also being reminded to register their devices on the Community Cam website, which allows police to quickly identify camera locations in the event of an emergency.

New CCTV stickers are now available through Neighbourhood Support Whakatāne, designed to act as a visible deterrent and alert others that surveillance is in place.

Fox said that the stickers are a simple but effective way to enhance security.
