This year's King's Birthday and Coronation Honours receipents, has some Eastern Bay connections.
Former Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, was named a Dame Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Ardern, spent her early years in Murupara, where her father, Ross Ardern was stationed as a Police officer.
She was Prime Minister, from 2017 until January this year.
Ardern led the country, through events like the 2019 Whakaari White Island eruption.
Omaio's Ruahei Demant, was also awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to rugby.
Demant was the co-captain of last year's Black Fern world cup side and won women's rugby player, last year.
Her other co-captain, Kennedy Simon was also awarded, the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to rugby.
Demant and Simon's coach, Wayne Smith was knighted - also, for services to rugby.
There were several other Bay of Plenty recipients, in the King's Birthday and Coronation Honours list.
Three are based in Tauranga, while another five are in Rotorua.
