The Whakatāne District Council is advising motorists to allow extra travel time when passing through the Ōhiwa Harbour area, as emergency road repair works are currently underway on Wainui Road.

The repairs are in response to a recent road dropout that has affected the area.

Stop/Go traffic management is in place to manage vehicle flow while the work is carried out.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and factor in potential delays.

The Council has indicated that the repairs are expected to take up to 10 working days, depending on weather conditions. Dry weather is necessary for completing the concrete kerbing portion of the work.

"Works are progressing well, and we thank everyone for their patience while these emergency repairs are carried out," Council's Communincations Advisor, Emma Tombleson spokesperson said. "And as always, give our crew a friendly wave as you pass by the team."

The repairs are scheduled to be completed by Friday afternoon next week.
