Fire Crews Respond To Overnight Garage Blaze In Whakatāne

Fire crews across the Eastern Bay were kept busy overnight with a garage fire in Whakatāne.


Fire & Emergency first received report of the fire on King Street in Kopeopeo at 11.36pm.


Crews from Whakatāne, Ōhope and Kawerau attended the scene.


"The 14m x 12m shed was well involved upon arrival," a Fire and Emergency spokesperson says.


Crews left the scene at 2.35am.


"A fire investigator will return to the scene today," the spokesperson says.


"The fire isn't suspicious at this stage, however they want to investigate the cause," Whakatane Chief Fire Officer, Chris Hands says.
