Four people are in hospital following a serious three-vehicle crash on State Highway 2, Pongakawa yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene between Wharere Road and Benner Road at around 4.20pm.
St John responded with four ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and two operations managers.
"We treated and transported four patients to Tauranga Hospital – one in a serious condition, one in a moderate condition and two in a minor condition." a St John spokesperson says.
The crash forced the closure of State Highway 2 Te Puke East Road for several hours - later re-opening at around 9.30pm.
