Local Firefighter Taking Part In Skytower Challenge To Raise Funds For Leukaemia And Blood Cancer Patients

Local firefighter, Jessica Burke will be competing in the Skytower challenge on May 24th, 2025 to help raise funds for people and their families' that are affected by blood cancer and Leukaemia.


Burke will be competing alongside her team who are all local volunteer firefighters from the Eastern Bay Volunteer Fire Brigade.


The other team members include: Cam Smailes, Josh Hansen, Ryan Pryde and Nikki Butler.


Burke says, "the challenge involves climbing up the 1100 stairs (52 flights) in the sky tower."

She says, "there are two sections of the challenge, the urban section involves carrying a breathing apparatus and the rural section involves carrying a 20kg hose."


Burke and her team will be competing in the rural section, and are required to wear full PPE gear when competing.


Burke says, "it's a good cause and she encourages the public to get involved and contribute anyway they can."
