One lucky Lotto player in Whakatāne will be celebrating this weekend after winning with Lotto Second Division in last night's live draw.

The person won $32,541 in Lotto Second Division alongside 20 other lucky players across the country.

The winning ticket in Whakatāne had been purchased on MyLotto.

Anyone who bought their ticket from MyLotto should check it as soon as possible in-store, on MyLotto, or through the MyLotto App.

Powerball was not struck last night and rolls over to Saturday where the jackpot of $55 million must be won by one or more players.

“Lotto head office and our retailers are buzzing with excitement – this is the largest prize ever on offer with Powerball and it has to be won on Saturday,” Lotto NZ Head of Corporate Communications, Will Hine says.

“The three $50 million Must Be Won draws we’ve previously held were all won by multiple winners, so there’s a chance that might happen this time too,"

“Regardless of how many people win on Saturday, we know the ripple effect of this win is likely to be felt far and wide in the winners’ communities," Hine says.

It comes only a few months after a couple from Ōpōtiki became New Zealand's fourteenth Powerball multi-millionaire of 2025 after winning 12.5 million.
