Man Accused Of Korrey Whyman Murder Named

Name suppression has lapsed for the man charged with the murder of Kawerau woman, Korrey Whyman.

The man accused is 30 year old Rotoiti man, Credence Paripari Malcolm.

Whyman, 28, was shot while inside a vehicle as it travelled on State Highway 33 towards Mourea, near Rotorua, early September 25th.

Whyman was rushed to hospital with a serious gunshot wound but later died from her injuries.

Malcolm was charged with murder and two charges of firing a 20-gauge shotgun with reckless disregard for the safety of others.

He first appeared in the Rotorua District Court over a week ago, where his lawyer, Max Simpkins, requested interim suppression due to extreme hardship for his family.

Simpkins said, Malcolm hadn't told his family about the charges and it would be better if he had the time to do so.

Crown prosecutor Anna McConachy said, she'd agree to the interim suppression order if it was for a seven day period.

Judge Greg Hollister-Jones agreed, and Malcolm's name suppression lapsed last Friday.

The 30 year old is set to re-appear in the High Court on December 2nd.
