Man In Custody Following Incident In Whakatāne

An 18-year old man has been taken into custody following an incident at a Whakatāne property last night.

Police were called to an address on Matirerau Street just before 10pm after receiving reports of the sound of gun shots.

"On arrival, Police located a broken window and one person with non-life-threatening injuries," a Police spokesperson says.

"A short time later the man was located nearby and taken into custody."

He has been charged with unlawfully possessing ammunition and is due to appear in Whakatāne District Court next Tuesday.

Enquiries into the matter are ongoing.
