One Dead Following Disorder Incident In Ōpōtiki

Police have launched a homicide investigation following a death of an Ōpōtiki man late Friday night.


It comes, after Police were alerted to a disorder related incident on St John Street just after 11pm on Friday.


"A man was located with serious injuries at the scene," says Detective Inspector Lew Warner.


"CPR was commenced, but the man died due to the severity of his injuries,"


Police named the victim yesterday as 45 year old Ōpōtiki man, Steven Rota Taiatini.


Police expected to complete the scene examination yesterday.


Warner says, the investigation team want to hear from anyone who was in the areas of St John, Albert or Richard streets between 9.30pm Friday night and 12.30am Saturday morning.


"Police will maintain a visible and increased presence in the Ōpōtiki area over the coming days." Warner says.


Police say, anyone who witnesses anything suspicious or has concerns for their safety are urged to call 111 immediately or 105 after the fact.


Police also ask anyone with information that may assist to contact them via 105 quoting event number P054943128.
