Eastern Bay Police are seeking information from the public following an aggravated robbery late Friday afternoon at Jewelz on The Strand in Whakatāne.

Police say a man entered the store around 4:40pm, shouting at staff members and smashing glass cabinets.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Wilson said the man stole jewellery before leaving the scene.

“He left towards Commerce Street in a silver Nissan TIIDA with the registration plate –FHE988,” Wilson said.

Wilson says the Tiida was stolen from the Kakahoroa Drive public car park earlier that day.

Two staff members were uninjured but very shaken by what occurred.

“A scene examination has been completed and we are following positive lines of enquiry,” Wilson said.

Police are now working to identify and locate the offender.

Wilson said they want to hear from anyone “who saw anything suspicious in the Kakahoroa Drive public car park, prior to the robbery.”

Anyone with information are urged to call Police by 105 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
