Police Arrest Two Men Following Serious Assault In Tauranga

Police have now arrested two people as they continue to investigate a serious assault on The Strand in Tauranga earlier this month.

Two 18-year-old men are now due to reappear before the Tauranga District Court Monday 8th April and Friday 12th April.

"The first charged with assaulting with intent to injure and the second charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm," says Senior Sergeant Scott Merritt.

"Police are continuing to work to identify the below group of people who we believe, alongside others, can assist our enquiries into a serious assault which occurred on Sunday 3rd of March,"

"Early Sunday morning, two young men were left with serious injuries following an unprovoked and violent attack," Merritt says.

Police say they believe a group were responsible and the offenders are not believed to be known to the victims.

"Police have reviewed CCTV footage, spoken with the victims and conducted a number of enquiries in an attempt to identify and locate the offenders,"

"Police are taking this incident extremely seriously, there is no place for this violence in our community and we will follow up on any new information we receive in an attempt to locate and bring those responsible for this assault before the courts," Merritt says.

Police ask anyone who may know the people pictured or have any information that may assist in their investigation, to call 105 and reference file number: 240304/9616.

Alternatively, you can report any information anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
