Whakatāne Police are now investigating an aggravated burglary earlier this morning at the Alexander Avenue dairy.
Police received a report of a robbery at a commercial premises on Alexander Ave at 7:40am.
"Multiple offenders entered the store, where the dairy owner was pushed to the ground," says Acting Senior Sergeant Shane Tailby.
"Offenders took what they could before leaving in a vehicle,"
"The vehicle was dumped on Salonika Street before the offenders hopped into another stolen vehicle," Tailby says.
Police enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances.
