Police Investigate Two Overnight Incidents Around Ōpōtiki Wharf

Investigations are now underway into two incidents which occurred around the Ōpōtiki wharf overnight.

Police have confirmed they received a report of a break in at the Coastguard Ōpōtiki building overnight.

Another incident was reported to have occurred at about 3am where a digger was located on fire in an industrial lot near the wharf area in Ōpōtiki.

"The scene of the fire is currently under police guard. Police and a Fire and Emergency New Zealand investigator will be conducting a scene examination this morning to establish the circumstances surrounding the blaze," a Police spokesperson says.

"Police are looking to see whether there is any link between the break-in at Coastguard and the digger fire. At this stage they are being treated independently,"

"We have no further information available as of yet," the spokesperson says.
