Protests were held in Whakatāne and Ōpōtiki this morning, as part of Te Pāti Māori's, National Maori Action Day.
It was part of a number of protests held in several centers across the North Island this morning including in Rotorua and Tauranga.
Te Pāti Māori described the movement as, "demonstrating the beginning of a unified Aotearoa response to the Government's assault on Tangata Whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi."
It came as MP's arrived in Wellington to be sworn into Parliament today.
The protest in Whakatāne started at the Heads at 7.30am ending at The Strand by the Out of Parliament office.
