MetService have announced Whakatāne experienced it's wettest September on record (since 1974) with 225.6mm of rain over the month.
Three other locations in the North Island hit new records in September; Taupō, Napier and Masterton all recording 167.2mm, 186.8mm and 152.0mm respectively.
The data comes, after a wild and very wet weekend in the the Eastern Bay.
Data from MetService showed from Friday to this morning, Whakatāne Airport recorded 110mm of rain, whilst Galatea recorded 113mm in the same time period.
