Police have taken three people into custody following a number of search warrants in the Ōpōtiki area, targeting traffic offending and anti-social trail bike use.

Four search warrants were carried out early this morning which saw one trail bike located and impounded and two young people arrested at the scene.

Another property of interest was then searched under warrantless power, locating and seizing cannabis, cash, and one trail bike.

"A 25-year-old man was taken into custody in relation to these located items. The man is due to appear in Court at a later date charged with traffic offending and drug related charges," a Police spokesperson says.

"The two youth will be referred to Youth Court,"

"Ōpōtiki Police remain committed to holding those to account for this unlawful activity, and urge the community to come forward with any information around unlawful dirt bike use,"

Information like this helps Police identify and locate alleged offenders and seize bikes for the safety of everyone on the roads or out and about.

Ōpōtiki Police thank the members of the public who provided information.

Police ask anyone who witnesses any anti-social dirt bike use to contact them on 111 immediately.

Information can also be reported through 105 online or by call in non-emergencies or after the fact.
