Three Separate Crashes On Eastern Bay Roads Over The Weekend

It was a busy weekend for Eastern Bay Police with three crashes on roads across the region.

On Saturday, Police responded to two separate crashes on State Highway 30 within a few hours apart.

Police were first called to the highway near Lake Rotoma on Saturday morning, after a freight truck with a trailer containing wood chips had rolled and blocked the road.

"The driver of the vehicle was not reported to have any serious injuries," a Police spokesperson had said.

The crash had forced the closure of this section of the highway near Rotoma for several hours. It later re-opened before 5pm.

Police then received reports of a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 30 near the Awakeri Hot Springs, shortly after 11:30am Saturday morning.

"One person was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition." a Police spokesperson said.

The road was partially blocked for a short period of time.

Police were also notified of a motorcyclist that had crashed on State Highway 2/Matawai Road in the Rakauroa area late yesterday afternoon.

The call was received at around 4:40pm.

"They were transported to hospital in a critical condition." a Police spokesperson had said.

The road was closed for a period of time. Police note, it was reported to be open again at around 7:30pm.
