Rainfall and a few cloudy days in September has caused for Whakatāne to scale back slightly in the 2022 Sunshine Hours race.
According to the latest NIWA Climate Database, Whakatāne recorded 188 hours of sunshine last month, 19 hours behind 2021 winner, New Plymouth.
In total, Whakatāne now sits 45 hours behind New Plymouth, who recorded 207 hours last month. Whakatāne has recorded 1863 hours of sunshine year to date, with New Plymouth recording 1908 hours.
Whakatāne's 188 hours of sunshine in September, compares with the 197 hours recorded in August.
Kawerau recorded 134 hours last month and is 376 hours behind New Plymouth, which places the town as 9th on the leader board.
