A Man Has Been Charged With Murder Following the Death of a Woman in Pukehina on New Years Day

    The 50-year-old man will appear in Tauranga District Court today, facing a charge of murder.

    Tauranga investigations manager Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Varnam said the 50-year-old man was initially charged with assault on a person in a family relationship. 

    He is due to appear in Tauranga District Court today.

    Police were called to an address on Old Coach Road around 3:00pm on January 1, where they found the woman dead, and the man was arrested.

    Around 2:10am on January 2, Police were advised of a man found dead in another house on the same Pukehina property. 

    His death is being treated as unexplained. 

    "Police enquiries are ongoing, and we ask anyone with information about what happened to contact Police through 105, either online or over the phone, and reference file number 260101/9901," said Varnam
