Police Have Named the Two People That Died Following a Crash in Tikitere

    Two people died at the scene, and another suffered moderate injuries.

    Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash on State Highway 30 around 4:20am, January 15.

    The casualties were 42-year-old Gisborne man Saul Rerekura and 32-year-old Rotorua woman Taukirangi Hewitt.

    Both died at the scene, and another was transported to Rotorua Hospital with moderate injuries.

     

    Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash and would like to hear from anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the Fenton Street, Rotorua and Curtis Road/SH30 areas, between 2am and 4.20am on Thursday 15 January.

    “We are looking for footage of a Green Honda Spike, similar to the one pictured, with the registration HBS903, or any information on the vehicle’s movements during the same time," said police. 

    It said information can be provided to 105.police.govt.nz, or by calling 105, using reference number 260115/4480.
