Residents interested in shaping the region's future are being encouraged to stand in the upcoming Bay of Plenty Regional Council by-election.
Nominations for the Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council by-election will open tomorrow.
The by-election will fill the late Councillor Malcolm Campbell's general constituency seat for the remainder of the 2025 - 2028 term.
Regional Council Chief Executive Fiona McTavish said the period would be increadibly important for setting the future of local governance in the Bay of Plenty, which requires full representation.
"“Along with the roll out of the Government’s Simplifying Local Government programme, there are still important regional decisions that will be required to be made and we still have significant responsibilities to deliver for our communities and environment.
"It's important those decisions continue to be made with full representation in place."
She encouraged anyone with a strong interest in representing and shaping the region to put their name forward.
Electoral Officer Warwick Lampp said those interested should take time to learn about the role and submit their nomination before noon on Thursday 16 July.
"We encourage people to get them in early so we can make sure all the information that’s provided is correct and meets the requirements," he said.
Information for the role will be available on the Regional Council website from June 18.
If multiple nominations are received, voting packs will be delivered via post from August 24.
Voting will close at 12pm on Friday 25 September, with preliminary results expected to be available soon after.
