People travelling through State Highway 2 in the Waioweka Gorge are being urged to plan ahead and allow extra time as crews carry out safety work at two slip sites.
On 9 September, a slip occurred at Manganuku, about 2km up the road towards Gisborne from the slip site that occurred last week.
Crews will be at the slip site on Thursday, 10 September, to inspect the slip face, carry out rock scaling and make the area safer for workers operating on the road.
The work is expected to take one to two days, depending on site conditions.
During the operation, short periods of full closures under traffic management will be required, with vehicles held for up to 10 minutes at a time.
Outside these closures, stop/go traffic management will remain in place, with the highway continuing to operate under a single lane until final geotechnical clearance is received.

Once work at Manganuku is completed, crews will move to the Monument slip site to remove material from the base of the slip and install safety barriers.
The stretch of road near the slip has been down to one lane since 30 August.
Stop/stop traffic management will be in place at Monument between approximately 7.30am and 5.00pm, with delays of up to 10 minutes expected.
The road is expected to return to two lanes once the work at the Monument site is completed, although the work remains weather-dependent.
Road users are advised to follow the directions of traffic management crews and drive to the conditions.
