Around 2.30am this morning there was a water mains break on Pōhutakawa Avenue, causing residents to wake up with no water.
Whakatāne District Council said the water mains are back on, and the team is carrying out checks on the main water valve at the bottom of Ōhope Hill to ensure everything is running as it should.
It said the water will remain on while the work is underway, however a temporary bypass line may be put in place throughout these checks, which could cause reduced water pressure for some properties along Pōhutukawa Avenue and in the West End area.
