Te Puna Ora o Mataatua Ltd has appointed Lee Colquhoun as its new chief executive, with the Ngāpuhi leader taking on responsibility for two of the organisation’s key subsidiaries.

Colquhoun, who has previously served as chief operating officer of Te Puna Ora Matua Group, began his new role on 1 July.

He will lead both Te Puna Ora o Mataatua Ltd, which delivers social, mental health and Whānau Ora services, and housing subsidiary Te Puna Ora o te Kāinga Kōpu Ltd.

The appointment is part of Te Puna Ora Matua Group’s leadership succession strategy, with the organisation saying it reflects its focus on developing senior leaders from within.

Te Puna Ora o Mataatua Board chair Kataraina Monika said Colquhoun’s experience over the past five years in executive leadership roles had positioned him well to take on the role.

“Lee has demonstrated exceptional leadership, a deep commitment to our kaupapa, and a strong understanding of the communities we serve,” she said.

Monika said Colquhoun had helped advance the organisation’s strategic priorities, strengthen service delivery, and support whānau wellbeing across its rohe.

The wider Te Puna Ora Matua Group includes Te Puna Ora o Mataatua Ltd, Te Puna Ora o te Kāinga Kōpu Ltd, Te Puna Ora Ira Āwhiorangi, which operates Te Whare o Toitū AI, and Te Puna Ora o Rongoā Māori, which operates Te Whare o Rehua.

Group chief executive Dr Chris Tooley said the appointment demonstrated the organisation’s commitment to growing leadership capability internally.

He said the group’s kaupapa, Toi Ora Motuhake, remained centred on its Mataatua whakapapa and its commitment to improving outcomes through a whānau ora approach to health, wellbeing and self-determination.

Group board chair Fiona Wiremu said the structure of the organisation allowed each subsidiary to focus on its own role while working towards a shared goal of improving outcomes for whānau.

“The Group approach enables us to grow strong leaders from within while ensuring each subsidiary remains focused on delivering for the communities it serves,” she said.

Colquhoun’s appointment comes as Te Puna Ora Matua Group continues to develop its services across health, housing, wellbeing and kaupapa Māori initiatives.
