Weather related damage has caused a power outage in Matatā and surrounding areas, intially impacting over 560 customers.
Horizon Network are responding to an unplanned power outage in Matatā and surrounding areas this afternoon.
Weather related damages caused an outage that impacted 567 customers.
387 customers in Matatā were affected at 3:22pm.
32 customers remain without power.
178 customers on Manawahē Road have also been without power since 3:24pm.
Faultmen are working to restore power.
Whakatāne District Council said Manawahē Road is closed due to a fallen tree and downed power lines.
The bluff section of Herepuru Road has been temporarily opened to allow residents in and out.
It said the detour is expected to be in place for four hours.
Extreme caution is required and roading contractors are on site, managing traffic with stop/go.
Police said Manawahē Road is blocked by a fallen tree and low hanging powerlines.
Motorists should avoid the area and take an alternate route if possible, it said.
Contractors are now clearing the road.
