NZTA said the road has now been cleared following falling debris at the Goldsmith slip site.
State Highway 2 Waioweka Gorge was temporarily closed this morning as crews worked to clear slip debris.
NZTA said debris from the Goldsmith slip built overnight, spilling over protective barriers onto the road.
It said motorists can expect delays today as the team continue to clear debris.
Traffic through the Waioweka Gorge is currently under stop/go traffic management past the Goldsmith lip site.
NZTA traffic management allow all traffic in both directions to pass through the site between 5am and 7am, as well as 6pm to 8pm with only fifteen minute delays.
In between those periods, from 7am to 6pm there is an hourly release of traffic, on the hour.
NZTA advise motorists to travel through the Gorge in the early morning and evening where possible to avoid long delays.
